Rick Moen (who lambasted me on SVLUG for even suggesting serial
storage about 2 years before "he woke up" ;-) has a good page on
various Linux support of SAS ASICs/HBAs and more intelligent RAID
cards:

As you'll note in Rick's (among other pages), when it comes to
hardware RAID, it really doesn't matter what channels are used.  For
more HBA support, SAS is replacing SCSI as U640 isn't being adopted
(as Rick notes as well).
