I have installed Windows 2000 on 64MiB (never tried 32MiB), but it
ran like crap. I've always run it on at least 256MiB (and was
typically sorry).

It's probably some PCMCIA and/or ISA PnP hardware, which was typical
in the 486/Pentium era of notebooks.
