[Pc_Support] Intel, Microsoft to support HD DVD, not BlueRay ...

An interesting turn of events:

Compatibility, standards and other considerations.

It's clear that Toshiba has flexibility, data and consumer
access in mind, far more than Sony who is clearly making
BlueRay the darling of the movie industry. HD DVD looks to
finally be the "universal" DVD that we've been looking for,
with a dual-disc (DVD and HD DVD) format.

Sony has always wanted separate data and consumer formats.
DVD+RW was a perfect example of a good data format, but
not-so-good consumer format -- especially in comparison of
the WORM DVD+R to DVD-R. This conflict-of-interest continues
to bother me with BlueRay. Especially from the
data/compatibility aspects of BlueRay.

Toshiba supported both DVD-RAM (optical archiving) and DVD-R
(WORM with maximum player compatibility). Their readers have
also been some of the best, with early support for reading
DVD-R when most 1st gen DVD-ROM drives could not.
