I'm so tempted to buy one of these as a backup to my Treo.  I
could have really used one of these while at Boeing (where I
couldn't take anything with a transmitter, but IR ports were
fine as long as they were covered).  

It's basically the old 66MHz Dragonball, 16MB, 160x160, 16
grayscale in a tiny-form factor, running PalmOS 4.1.  That
gives it maximum compatibility, sans the pixel size (they
recommended you use a double-size font for normal use).

IR port and USB cable, I'm curious if these things use the
same USB protocol as the Smartphone-Handspring-Treos.  I
don't see why not?  Exact same processor/OS as my old Kyocera
SmartPhone 7135.
