Do you really want an answer to that second question? <GRIN>

Acronyms and abbreviations are fine if you define them (or remind the 
reader) in the message/article when the acronym/abbreviation isn't in 
common use or may be confusing.  The idea is to convey useful 
information, not confuse.

For example, "IP" has about 120 definitions according to 
acronymfinder.com; around 20 of which are deemed common in the 
Information Technology category.  No wonder people gloss over when 
reading tech books.
