How are you delivering power to it?
That might be the reason more than anything?

I know my GeForce 7800GTX ran with my 300W ATX 2.0 power
supply, but I upgraded to a 500W Seasonic S12 ATX 2.0 with a
PCIe connector because I wanted to ensure adequate power
without any under-voltage as a result of increased current
draw.  Over time, that can really kill electronics.
